Gainesville Athletic Club holds fourth Stomp and Chomp Gala
On Feb. 8, the Gainesville Athletic Club held its fourth Stomp and Chomp Gala at the Gainesville Civic Center.
The Gainesville Athletic Club is a non-profit organization that raises money to benefit all Gainesville High School and Gainesville Middle School athletic programs. In addition to raising money through ticket sales and a live and silent auction, the Stomp and Chomp Gala has become an opportunity for Red Elephant supporters to come together, celebrate the success of the school's student-athletes, and recognize those who have gone above and beyond to serve the young people of Gainesville and the surrounding community.
Gary Funk received the Sharon Edmondson Award as the outstanding member of the Gainesville Athletic Club board. The award was renamed this year in memory of Sharon, a long time supporter of Gainesville athletics that passed away recently after a courageous fight with cancer.
Mickey Long was awarded The Big Red Award of Honor, given each year to a man or woman who has made exceptional contributions of their time, talent and resources to Big Red athletics over their lifetime.
The Gainesville Athletic Club raised approximately $25,000 after event expenses to bring the grand total raised for the Athletic Club through four years of Stomp and Chomp to almost $100,000. Proceeds will go to fund special projects above and beyond those covered by annual allocations.
