ATLANTA - The FBI has named a new chief for its Atlanta office.

The agency announced Monday that Director James Comey has selected J. Britt Johnson as special agent in charge of its Atlanta division. He replaces Mark Giuliano, who was named deputy director of the FBI in November.

Johnson was most recently deputy assistant director in the criminal investigative division, where he was in charge of investigations into violent crime, violent crimes against children, transnational organized crime and southwest border crimes.

Johnson began his career with the FBI in 1995 in San Diego. He's held a variety of different positions within the FBI, including a previous stint in Georgia.

Johnson is a Georgia native and has an engineering degree from Auburn University.
