GSP makes arrests after chases in White, Jackson counties

UNDATED - Two men are facing charges after separate wrecks that ended pursuits by the Georgia State Patrol in White and Jackson counties Friday night.
The White County pursuit ended when 43-year-old John Edge Sanders of Gainesville crashed his motorcycle on Post Road at Cooley Woods after fleeing around 9:50 p.m.
Sanders faces more than a dozen charges, including felony fleeing and attempting to elude; reckless driving; obstructing/hindering of law enforcement officer; expired tag; speeding; failure to maintain lane; following too closely; unlawful to purchase, possess, or have control of any controlled substance (suspected methamphetamine); driving on a suspended license; driving under the influence; possession and use of drug-related objects; possession of less than one ounce of marijuana; and removing or affixing a license plate with intent to conceal or misrepresent, a GSP spokesman said.
The Jackson County pursuit began about 15 minutes later when a trooper attempted to stop a 1995 Ford Taurus with no tag on Georgia Highway 15 around 10:05 p.m. The driver lost control of the car and it overturned on U.S. Highway 441 at Old Athens Road.
The driver, 54-year-old Benjamin Gillespie Jr. of Commerce, was treated and released at Athens Regional Medical Center. He then was taken to the Jackson County Jail, where he is charged with felony fleeing and attempting to elude; driving while unlicensed; no tag, reckless driving; DUI drugs; no insurance; seatbelt violation; obstructing/hindering of law enforcement officer; speeding; and failure to maintain lane, the GSP spokesman said.
