Cooper announces run for Hall Co. Commission
CHESTNUT MOUNTAIN – South Hall farmer and businesswoman Kathy Cooper Friday announced her campaign to represent District 1 on Hall County Board of Commissioners.
"Having lived and worked in South Hall for most of my life, I feel that I have a deep understanding of the issues that face the area. We need to maintain smart growth strategies, as well as family values in our community. As a business owner and woman, I bring a singular and important voice to the commission," Cooper said in a written statement.
Cooper said she will run as a Republican. She said she will work to ensure that the distinct needs of the south Hall area are consistently addressed.
"It’s important to recognize that South Hall has unique communities within the district’s borders. The needs and interests of the citizens near Lake Lanier may not be the same as those from the neighborhoods and more rural areas near Gwinnett and Jackson counties," said Cooper.
Cooper is the president of Cooper Family Enterprises, a diversified family-farm in Chestnut Mountain, and serves on the Hall County Hospital Authority. She formerly served on the board of directors of the National Bank of Gainesville.
Cooper and her husband John operate a cattle and chicken operation in Chestnut Mountain. For the past 30 years, they have also run Cooper’s Christmas tree farm. They are members of Chestnut Mountain Presbyterian Church and have three children.
