Gainesville/Hall has new 2014 STAR students

GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville Kiwanis Club Tuesday presented the 2014 edition of Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) students and teachers at the First Baptist Church Banquet Hall on Green Street.

Nine top students from Hall County and Gainesville were chosen and two of them with their teachers will represent Hall County in District Two competition next month.

Joanne Jacob and her teacher Kimberly Grennan from Flowery Branch High School and Helly Patel with her teacher Andy Miller from Gainesville High head for First Baptist Church in Jasper on March 18th to compete with 11 Northeast Georgia counties for district STAR honors.

Patel thanked her teacher,who said his STAR student was a very good math student.

I do enjoy math a lot, Patel said. I went to the Governors Honors Program for math so math is definitely going to be in my career plans.

Patel says those plans also include attending Georgia Tech to major in applied mathematics. Jacob sees the medical profession in her future.

I havent decided on a college but Id like to major in either biology or bio-chemistry, Jacob said. Id like to become a physician; its eight years of school but I think the end reward will be helping people.

STAR students with their teachers from Hall County and Gainesville who drew honors at the luncheon include, for Hall County: Chestatee High School, Logan Allen, Ernest Davis; East Hall High School, Ulises Deras, Craig Cantrell; Flowery Branch High School Joanne Jacob, Kimberly Grennan; Johnson High School, Danish Roshan, Phil Higgins; North Hall High School, Hyder Hasnain, Kerry Whitlock; West Hall High School, Anthony Arbise, Marsha McFall.

For Gainesville: Gainesville High School, Helly Patel, Andy Miller; Lakeview Academy, Nathan Zottnick, Michael McCann; Riverside Military Academy, Do Yeun Kim Anne Sanders.
