Feed Forsyth has busy year in 2013

By Staff
CUMMING Feed the Hungry Forsyth delivered a total of 84,761 pounds of food to
18 community food ministries in 2013.

Additionally, Feed Forsyth partnered with community businesses holding several food drives during the year collecting 21,926 lbs of canned goods.

Officials note that community food pantries are seeing an increase in the number of families seeking assistance due to the decrease in federal assistance. At the same time, there has been a decrease in the supply of food the pantries are receiving from other sources.

Feed Forsyth sees this situation as a "call to action" to fill the gap and is seeking to partner with additional restaurants and grocery stores that have been throwing away safe edible food at the end of their business day and take that food and put it back in the food supply for struggling families in Forsyth County. In addition, the organization is actively raising funds to purchase a second refrigerated truck to increase the amount of food it can move each week.

Plans are being made to hold additional food drives to help provide for
the Summer Bags of Love ministry operated by several of the pantries.
