Brenau Barbecue Championship on hold for 2014

GAINESVILLE - Brenau University's annual barbecue cook-off will be placed on the back burner this year.
The university announced today on its website that due to a full spring calendar, the barbecue will be on hiatus for 2014.
“We really hope that we can reintroduce the barbecue as a sustainable event,”
President Ed Schrader said in a press release. “This year, however, it did not make sense to try to push this through on an already full calendar that demands more and more staff attention and resources.”
The university will celebrate its 135th year with a spring Gala on March 29.
“We are concerned that the two programs draw from the same sponsorship pool in the Gainesville area and would be competing too much for their attention and resources,” Schrader said in the release. “The Gala is the most important social event of the year for Brenau and making it a unforgettable occasion must be the highest priority for the university at this time."
