"We've had staff in many areas staying overnight to be sure that we have adequate staffing: our patient care staff... but also our support staff," spokeswoman Melissa Tymchuk said.
GAINESVILLE - It looks like most North Georgians took the advice to stay inside during the winter storm. While many were prepared for the storm in their homes, workers at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center began preparing at the hospital.

"We are continually amazed by the dedication of our staff by to care for out patients," Melissa Tymchuk told Derreck Booth on the WDUN Afternoon News Wrap. "We've had staff in many areas staying overnight to be sure that we have adequate staffing: our patient care staff... but also our support staff."

Tymchuk said scheduling organization helped keep the hospital fully staffed. "What we really try to do is keep enough staff here overnight so we don't have those situations where we're trying to get staff here," she said. Tymchuk also said a local tow truck company offered to help get employees to work.

Cases were actually down at the hospital. "You'd think that at times like these we would have a busy emergency room, but yesterday especially it was very slow. When folks are off the road and not out and about and actually snowed in themselves, we don't see as much activity as we do normally."

Tymchuk said they saw a few weather related injuries, including a sledding accident, and many of their patients opted to reschedule surgeries and appointments.

"Again, we are so fortunate to have such dedicated staff."
