Preliminary snow, ice totals for Ga. released by NWS

Gov. Deal toured the hard hit Augusta area by helicopter Wednesday and then met with city-county officials and reporters before returning to Atlanta.
PEACHTREE CITY - Snowfall in Georgia this week ranged from a tenth of an inch in a swath of counties through the middle part of the state to a foot or more in some parts of northwest Georgia.
That's according to a preliminary report released Thursday afternoon by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Peachtree City.
The report shows the heavier snowfall occurred from the southern part of metro Atlanta northward to the mountains.
In Hall County, amounts ranged from around 2.5 inches in the southern end of the county to around three inches at the northern end, and that was basically true of the adjoining counties such as Habersham, Jackson and Forsyth. But, there were pockets in Hall north and west of Gainesville where amounts ranged from 3.5-4.5 inches.
It was along I-75 near the Tennessee line and back over toward Rome where depths of up to a foot or more were concentrated though there were instances of that much in places in northeast Georgia, particularly in the Union, Fannin and Towns county areas.
The northern third of the state was least affected by the freezing rain that occurred as part of the storm system. But south and east of the south metro Atlanta area it was a different story. In hard hit areas of Augusta and counties just west of there, it was not uncommon to find accumulations of ice ranging up to one inch.
Workers at the Augusta National Golf Club where the Masters will be played in about two months have begun cleaning debris left behind by the storm. Club officials say they were expecting some minor debris cleanup after the storm, and the magnolia trees along the course appear to have survived the winter weather.
