Contract OK'd for $7M road project in Jefferson
ATLANTA – A contract has been awarded by the state Department of Transportation for the $7 million reconstruction of several streets in Jefferson, a project that also includes the realignment of a bridge.
The reconstruct SR 15 Alt/SR 82/Kissam Street and Storey Street was awarded to Pittman Construction Company of Conyers.
The project will reconstruct SR 15ALT/SR 82, Kissam Street, and Storey Street as a one-way pair. The existing bridge over Curry Creek on the connector roadway between SR 15ALT/SR 82 and Kissam Street would be shifted approximately 60 feet east of the existing bridge. Kissam Street would be extended to the east with a new bridge constructed over Curry Creek. The original arched bridge will continue to carry traffic.
The multi-use trail in Curry Creek Park will be impacted during construction and rebuilt to run underneath the two new bridges. Access to the Park will be maintained throughout construction. The contract completion date is August 31, 2016 and the contract amount is $6.9 million.
Necessary lane closure schedules on all projects will be made public before work begins.
