PEACHTREE CITY - The National Weather Service (NWS) is alerting Georgians to the possibility of a wintry mix of rain and snow Thursday and Thursday night - and has expanded the area where it is most likely to occur to include a greater part of central Georgia.

But, forecasters say the scenario is far different from the one that produced last week's snow storm and associated problems.

They now say snow may mix with the light rain before ending about midnight Thursday along and north of a line from Columbus to Louisville in east central Georgia. Earlier, the forecast referred to a line from Hamilton through Barnesville to Gainesville.

In addition, the weather service now says no accumulation is expected, even in the mountains. Up to a quarter-inch had been forecast earlier. The greatest concern is still for patchy black ice Thursday night as temperatures fall into the 20s by sunrise Friday.
