CLEVELAND - The rumbles and grumbles about the handling of last week's snow and ice storm in Atlanta continue, but in White County things seem to have gone smoothly.

Friday afternoon, White County Public Safety Director David Murphy and County Manager Mike Melton held an after-storm review with local reporters.

During the review, Murphy detailed the action plan they followed. He said they began days before the storm preparing and planning. During a two-period, Tuesday and Wednesday, Murphy said they activated the Emergency Operations Center and 9-1-1 dispatch operators answered 790 calls. For a couple of hours on Tuesday, they were answering 100 calls per hour.

According to Murphy and Melton, all agencies worked well together.

"The county and city departments came together very effectively to mitigate and work through and respond to this latest winter weather event we had, with the number of incidents taking place and the amount of snow we had on the ground that eventually turned to ice everyone worked very hard to make sure our community was safe and the people passing through were safe on the roads," Murphy said. "Everything went very well."

Murphy said there is always room for improvement.

"What we are going to do is get all our county management team together the middle of next week and do an after-action review," Murphy said. "Thereís always an opportunity to continue to improve and do better on what you do, and thatís going to be the time we sit down and do that and come up with some objectives and goals and next time we can do even better."
