Topics announced for Piedmont College Conference on ‘Religion and the Liberal Arts’
DEMOREST - Piedmont College has announced topics for its seventh annual Religion and the Liberal Arts Conference, which will be held in Claremont and Pomona, Calif., Feb. 28-March 1.
“The Dignity of Difference” is the theme of the conference, which will feature keynote speakers the Rev. Dr. Barbara Brown Taylor, internationally acclaimed preacher and best-selling author, who also serves as Butman Professor of Philosophy and Religion at Piedmont College; and Dr. Jeffrey Kuan, President of the Claremont School of Theology. Joining them will be Dr. Tammi J. Schneider, Professor of Religion and Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities at Claremont Graduate University.
At the banquet address on Feb. 28, Schneider will speak on the topic of “What You Hear is What You Ask: The Dilemma of Defining Religion.” Taylor will speak March 1 at the opening session, and the title of her talk is “Divine Array: Religious Others and the Otherness of God.” Also on that Saturday, Kuan will speak on “Walking in the Name of One’s Own God: Why I Am a Christian Pluralist.”
