GAINESVILLE - A Gainesville man trimming trees near Lake Lanier in Forsyth County died Saturday after falling roughly 40 feet from an elevated bucket.

According to the Georgia News Network, 39-year-old Jose Luiz Martinez was working in northeast Forsyth County on Saturday afternoon. Martinez was part of a four-man crew hired to perform landscaping maintenance on a Myrtle Court property, just off Chestatee Heights Road.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office told GNN that Martinez was utilizing a bucket truck to trim a pine tree on the property when a piece of the tree apparently struck the bucket.

Martinez, who was not wearing any safety equipment at the time of the accident, had failed to secure himself and was knocked out of the bucket, falling the approximately 40 feet to the ground.

GNN reports that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been alerted to the situation.
