Elachee launches Naturversity series

GAINESVILLE - Elachee Nature Science Center recently launched its Naturversity lecture series.
The first of three scheduled programs last week featured David Yenerall, Instructor of Astronomy/ Physics, Georgia Perimeter College. Yenerall's presentation, "The Van Allen Probes," focused on the impact of the Van Allen Probes on what is known about the radiation belts that lie above the earth’s atmosphere.
The next two planned lectures are as follows:
Thursday, February 13 – Charlie Muise, Coordinator of Audubon’s Georgia Important Bird Area (IBA) Program. “Georgia Important Bird Areas” – Muise will discuss Georgia’s IBA program, his work as coordinator and the current challenges facing bird populations in Georgia and elsewhere.
Thursday, March 13. – Dr. Sylwester Ratout, Independent Scholar on the History of Science, “Mastodons, Oaks, and The Franklinia.” Ratout will talk about political, economic and aesthetic motives that propelled Western men like Thomas Jefferson, William Bartram, and Andre Michaux to explore the flora and fauna of North America during the late 18th century.
