Gainesville, Forsyth school safety projects included in GDOT bid letting

ATLANTA - Pedestrian and school safety projects in Gainesville and Forsyth County are among more than $34 million in contracts for transportation projects in Georgia recently approved by state DOT.
In all, 18 new projects around the state were approved.
Included were pedestrian and school zone safety improvements at various locations in Forsyth County as well as the city of Gainesville.
In addition, contracts were awarded for 5.8 miles of resurfacing on State Route 9 in Forsyth County from north of State Route 20 to north of State Route 369.
Largest of the new projects in GDOT's bid letting is an $8.2 million contract with Oxford Construction Company, of Albany, to widen and reconstruct nearly two miles of the Leesburg North Bypass between U.S. Highway 19/State Route3 and State Route 195 in Lee County.
In Jenkins County, Southern Concrete Construction Co., Inc., also of Albany, will be paid $4.9 million to construct two new bridges above the Ogeechee River on South Herndon Road.
And in Savannah, 1.3 miles of busy Abercorn Street/State Route 204 between Veterans Parkway and Rio Road will be widened by APAC Southeast, Inc., of Savannah, for $4.1 million.
