'Masterworks on the Move' opening reception, faculty concert
GAINESVILLE - Brenau University will celebrate American arts and culture Thursday, January 16, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. in Simmons Visual Arts Center's Sellars Gallery.
This reception and musical performance celebrates the opening of "Masterworks on the Move," a traveling exhibition of works from the Helena Eastman Ogden Campbell Collection at Wesleyan College.
The event will combine American art and music from the turn of the century to 1960 with all-American cuisine.
Dr. Barbara Steinhaus, Chair of the Music Department and Professor of Music at Brenau, will perform several musical numbers from notable American composers such as Charles Ives, Amy Marcy Cheney Beach, and Irving Berlin in Sellars Gallery amidst 25 American masterpieces from artists such as Emma Fordyce McRae, Gustave Wiegand, and Jane Peterson. Ben Leaptrott will accompany Dr. Steinhaus on piano.
