AAA: Year-end holiday travel expected to increase for 5th straight year

TAMPA, Fla. - AAA projects 94.5 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more from home during the year-end holiday season, an increase of 0.6 percent from the 94 million people who traveled last year.

This marks the fifth consecutive year of increases and the highest travel volume recorded for the season. The year-end holiday period is defined by AAA as December 21-January 1.

AAA Regional Year-End Holiday Travel Forecast:

Florida 4.8 million (+0.8%) 4.4 million (+1%) 265,332 (-0.2) 190,804 (-1.2%)

Georgia 2.7 million (+0.6%) 2.4 million (+0.7%) 147,325 (-0.4%) 105,943 (-1.4%)

Tennessee 2.1 million (+1.2%) 2 million (+1.5%) 58,904 (-0.2%) 76,921 (-3.7%)

AAA’s projections are based on economic forecasting and research by IHS Global Insight. The Colorado-based business information provider teamed with AAA in 2009 to jointly analyze travel trends during the major holidays.
