DOT credits quick response project for traffic improvement in Suwanee
By Derreck Booth Editor
SUWANEE - State traffic officials Wednesday said a Quick Response project completed in Suwanee earlier this week has already improved traffic flow in a busy corridor.
The recent work essentially extended the left turn lane from Lawrenceville Suwanee Road to Interstate 85 north. The move allows more cars in the turn lane, preventing motorists going straight from getting caught behind turning vehicles.
"This lane extension opened for us Monday and we’ve seen improvement in the corridor already,” Georgia Department of Transportation District Engineer Bayne Smith said.
The $70,000 project eliminated an old U-turn median opening to allow the turn lane extension. It's part of the Quick Response program which allows so-called low cost operational improvements on state routes.
The dollar limit for Quick Response projects is $200,000.
