NGMC offers online courses for expectant mothers
By Alyson Shields Staff
GAINESVILLE - Expectant mothers in North Georgia now have another option when it comes to prepared childbirth classes. The Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) now offers online courses for prepared childbirth and breastfeeding.
Jennifer Johnson is an Administrative Assistant for the Women and Children's Services at the hospital and is involved in the online and in-house courses.
"We created the online option for our prepared childbirth class to help accommodate expectant mothers who's schedules don't allow them to attend a series of classes on site, or who are unfortunately experiencing bed rest or other complications," said Johnson. "And in an age where moms-to-be can search for just about anything they need to know online, it's only fitting for them to be able to access childbirth classes as well."
Johnson said the new online courses are the only ones currently at NGMC and the only ones like it in the area. "We're the only hospital in the area that is offering the online childbirth and online breastfeeding classes," she said.
The prepared child birth course includes a tour of the hospital, the online learning module and an optional in-house session.
The learning breastfeeding class is provides general information and may be taken as a refresher or supplemental to the on-site course.
"In addition to these two online options, NGMC will continue to provide prepared childbirth , breastfeeding, new born parenting, car seat safety and our new baby class - which is our sibling class - on its on site campus in Gainesville," said Johnson.
