Vining, Lakeview put on 'Hoops for Daniel' tournament Dec. 29
Former Lakeview and East Hall hall of fame basketball coach Seth Vining will join with Lakeview on Dec. 29 to present the "Hoops for Daniel" basketball tournament and clinic, which will aid 2010 Lakeview graduate Daniel Olvera.
Olvera, who played basketball for the Lions and at Covenant College before transferring to Lander University, has battled Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia since June.
Hoops for Daniel will highlight Olvera’s love for basketball and provide people of all ages an opportunity to participate and support his cause. Festivities will include a youth clinic and a young adult 3-on-3 tournament. The youth clinic, for boys and girls in third-sixth grade, will feature five sessions with a different coach teaching each session.
The 3-on-3 tournament will see teams placed in pools with every team guaranteed to play three games.
Registration forms may be picked up at the Hall County Community Centers and can be found on the Facebook page “Hoops for Daniel”. Call 770-536-8663 for more information.
An account has also been set up for Hoops for Daniel at the Independence Bank of Georgia in Gainesville.
The 54th Lanierland tournament, which begins Saturday at Flowery Branch, will also support Leukemia awareness, giving out information and wrist bands from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
