WINDER - Four men are now former officers with the Winder Police Department in the wake of an investigation into testing irregularities within the department.

Chief Dennis Dorsey, Major Jim Fullington and Lieutenant Frank Farr were on administrative leave with pay during the investigation that surfaced earlier this month.

Reached by email Monday, Winder City Administrator Donald Toms forwarded letters of resignation from Dorsey and Farr, both dated Tuesday, November 26.

Both letters offered resignations, appreciation for opportunities with the city, well wishes for the future and offers of assistance during the transition.

The Dorsey letter differed in that it referenced the investigation.

"After the internal investigation that was recently completed, I feel like I can no longer effectively lead the Winder Police Department."

Fullington remained on administrative leave. City officials expected to release a statement related to his status Monday evening, according to Toms.

Two other Winder officers, Officer Joey Lovinggood and Sgt. Randy Michael, are also off the force according to Toms.

"Officer Lovinggood and Sgt. Michael were terminated for not meeting essential duties of the job," Toms said in an email.

The official date was Friday, October 29 according to Toms.

In a statement earlier this month at the start of the investigation, Winder Mayor David Maynard emphasized that the allegations were not criminal in nature.

Toms said Lt. Rob Curott continues serving as acting chief of police.
