CLEVELAND - It was a busy Sunday for White County firefighters, who were dispatched to reports of fires at four homes in the county.
White County Public Safety Director David Murphy reported the fire call was received at 4:57 a.m. to 260 J&J Drive off Chimney Mountain Road in Sautee.
"Upon arrival of the first unit, they reported a mobile home 90-percent involved in fire," Murphy said. "There were no injuries and the Red Cross was called to assist the occupants."
White County Stations 7, 3, 2 and Helen Fire Department responded to the scene, along with the Lee Arrendale State Prison Fire Brigade.
That fire is under investigation, but appears to have been accidental, Murphy said.
The second alarm was received at 9:33 a.m. at 534 Escowee Drive in Helen.
White County Stations 3 and 7 responded to assist Helen Fire Department.
The third and fourth calls both were received at 7:16 p.m.
One of those calls, at 192 Spencer Drive off Georgia Highway 115 West, was a reported chimney fire that was out upon firefighters' arrival.
White County Stations 5 and 4 and Cleveland Fire Department responded to the incident. Firefighters from Station 4 checked the residence for the owner, and no damage was reported, Murphy said.
The other call was a reported chimney fire at 264 Campground Road off Skitts Mountain Road south of Cleveland.
Stations 4, 5 and Cleveland Fire Department responded to the incident. Again, that fire was out upon firefighters' arrival and no damage was reported, Murphy said.
Murphy reminds residents to take precautions to ensure a safe holiday season.
"It is important that residents check smoke detectors, use safe measures while cooking and have chimneys cleaned as we begin the holidays and set into the next few months of winter," Murphy said. "Safety information can be located on our website and at www.ready.ga.gov."
