CLEVELAND -- You think Dalton Whitfield was ready for this?

The senior played like he was in no mood to let his career at White County come to a close on Friday, rushing for 240 yards and three touchdowns to help lead the Warriors to a 52-28 win over Adairsville in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs in Cleveland.

Whitfield also made an impact on defense racking up double digit tackles to add to his team-high 147 on the season.

White County (9-2) pulled away from a back and forth start to finish with 501 yards of offense -- 470 of that on the ground, as Tucker Cook, Cody Tanner, Parker Dorsey, Ethan Ramsey, Jesse Seabolt, Tyler Wilson and Jacob Motes cleared the way on the offensive front.

Now a very familiar foe awaits in the second round, as the Warriors will travel to face Blessed Trinity in the second round. It will be the fourth match-up in two seasons between the two foes -- Blessed Trinity is 3-0 so far in those games.

Yet White County will certainly be up for the battle on the evidence of Friday's victory.

Aside from Whitfield's big night, Maurice Sutton added 112 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries, while Sam Turner rushed 11 times for 54 yards and a score. Quarterback A.J. Vandiver also completed 3 of 6 passes for 31 yards and rushed for 44 yards.

Wesley Saunders also added a 27-yard field goal for the Warriors, while Adam Johnson closed out the scoring with an 80-yard interception return for a touchdown, as the Warriors won their first playoff game under coach Bill Ballard and their second home postseason victory in four seasons.

White County will travel to Roswell for next week's match-up with the Titans.
