RINGGOLD -- North Hall started strong but Ringgold finished stronger as the Tigers rallied from a pair of 14-point first half deficits to nip the Trojans 55-54 Friday night in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs.

North Hall had a chance to win it at the end but a 45-yard field goal attempt bounced off the crossbar with 19 seconds remaining.

The Trojans (8-3) led 21-7 after the first quarter and 28-14 after Brannon Dyer scored his second touchdown of the half midway through the second quarter. But the North Hall defense could not hold on.

But Ringgold's Slade Dale would run for two scores and throw for another in the final 5:15 of the first half to tie the game at 35 by halftime.

North Hall built its lead on 55-yard pass from Andrew Smith to Dyer, a 30-yard run by Zac Little ans then TD runs of 27 and 3 by Dyer. Will cape would add a 74-yard kickoff return for the Trojans.

Little scored on a 7-yard run but Dale would toss his second TD pass of the game to tie the game at 41. Smith would score on 15-yard run to reclaim the lead 48-41 but Dale would score twice for Ringgold (9-2) in the fourth quarter, including a 14-yard run with just 1:43 left in the game for the game-winner.

North Hall piled up 467 yards rushing for the game, led by Little's 267 yards.

Ringgold was more balanced with 268 yards rushing and 218 yards passing for the game.

The Tigers next will take over Cedar Grove, which knocked off Elbert County 22-14 in four overtimes, in the second round.
