UNDATED - Both the U.S. Forest Service and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are offering free services at many of their sites this weekend in honor of Veterans Day.

U.S. Forest Service officials say the agency is waiving fees for visitors at most of its day-use recreation centers from Nov. 9-11 at the Chattahoochee and Oconee National Forests.

Spokeswoman Judy Toppins says forest visitors should feel free to call other local forest service offices to check on whether fees are being waived elsewhere.
Officials say fees are being waived as part of the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act, and the waivers are also part of an initiative by President Barack Obama to encourage Americans to spend time outdoors.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced Friday that it will waive day use fees for veterans, active and reserve component service members, and their families at USACE-operated recreation areas on Veterans Day, November 11.

The fee waiver requires only verbal confirmation of service. The waiver covers fees for boat launch ramps and swimming beaches. The waiver does not apply to camping and camping-related services, or fees for specialized facilities such as group picnic shelters.
