Clubhouse fire at Top of Georgia Airstream Park under investigation
By Rob Moore Editor
HELEN - A Sunday-afternoon fire in the clubhouse at a well-known White County tourist destination remains under investigation.
Top of Georgia Airstream Park is a members-only Airstream park located at 14255 Highway 75 North, north of Helen.
"It appears that the fire started in the kitchen area and spread to the cabinets," said Helen Fire Chief Lee Poteat. "It burned through the wall, which burned through a water line. The water line acted like a sprinkler and controlled the fire until Helen Engine
8 arrived on scene."
Units from White County Stations 3 and 7 also responded upon the request of Helen Fire Department.
"Lt. Shular Barden advised that upon arrival smoke was coming from the structure," Poteat said. "Firefighters made entry and wet down some hotspots and overhauled the area."
A state fire investigator was on scene Monday.
Additional details are not immediately available.
