Winder is 'wide open' this week
By Ken Stanford Staff
WINDER - Georgia DOT announces the around-the-clock double lane closure is no longer in place in Winder. But the major road rebuilding project in downtown is not yet finished.
Curbing and gutter construction will occur in the “bump out” planting areas located in the on street parking along State Route 11. This week the installation of conduit and the bases for the new decorative lighting will continue. Contractors are focusing on the Streetscape portion of the work; new, wider sidewalks, decorative lighting, benches, bike racks, plantings and removing the damaged asphalt parking areas then rebuilding them.
This 0.72 mile long project was awarded to G.P.’s Enterprises of Statham for $4.9 million with a completion date of July 31, 2014. The project will rebuild SR 11/Broad Street from the ground up. Enhancement work includes new sidewalks, curb and gutter, benches, lighting and landscaping.
