The seventh-annual Habersham E-9-1-1 Children's Fun Festival is set for 5-8 p.m. today, Oct. 24, at the Habersham County Fairgrounds near Clarkesville.
MT. AIRY – Thousands are expected to visit the Habersham County Fairgrounds near Clarkesville from 5-8 p.m. today, Oct. 24, for the Habersham E-9-1-1 Children's Fun Festival.
In its seventh year, the free event was moved last year from the Habersham Emergency Operations Center in Mt. Airy to the fairgrounds to accommodate exponential growth.
The event is organized by dispatchers at Habersham County E-9-1-1 as a way to meet and give back to the community they serve.
“The Children’s Fun Festival allows children to become acclimated with emergency services and gain important educational material,” says Dispatch Supervisor Jennifer Moulder, one of the organizers of the event.
This year’s totally free event will feature trunk or treat, hayrides, helicopters, mascots and clowns, animal attractions, wrestling exhibitions, interactive exhibits, community partners, simulators and more.
In addition, this year the event will serve as a drop-off location for both Coats for Kids and Toys for Tots.
Children and their parents will be able to visit booths inside the Dewey H. Tench Market Pavilion at the fairgrounds, where they can pause for pictures with mascots and talk with firefighters, law enforcement personnel, 9-1-1 dispatchers, and paramedics.
Costumes are welcome.
Parents are encouraged to bring a camera to capture memories of their children checking out emergency vehicles, as well as visiting with mascots, clowns and public safety personnel.
All attractions are subject to change due to availability and weather conditions. The event is free, and concessions will be available for purchase.
Parking will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the parking lot on the Little League side of the fairgrounds complex. Gates open at 5 p.m.
The Habersham County Fairgounds complex is located at 4235 Toccoa Highway, Clarkesville.
