Gwinnett Co., Buford City schools to upgrade security systems
By Alyson Shields Staff
The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners and Board of Education announced today that upgraded security systems will be implemented at all Gwinnett County and Buford City public schools.
The system upgrade will directly contact emergency services with the push of a button, eliminating the need for a 911 call. When the button is pushed, the cameras already installed will automatically send a live feed to emergency dispatch.
In a meeting yesterday, the Board of Commissioners approved the use of up to $5 million of 2014 SPLOST public safety funds.
"After the tragic events in schools elsewhere, I believe we must do all we can to protect the students in our public schools here in Gwinnett," said Board Chairman Charlotte Nash in a press release.
132 Gwinnett County schools and four Buford City schools will receive the upgrades.
