Deal
GAINESVILLE - Gov. Nathan Deal will be in Gainesville Friday to visit his barber. Whether he gets a haircut while in town, though, is anybody's guess. Chances are though, the governor, himself, will be wielding a pair of scissors - a big one.

Deal is scheduled to visit Precision Hair Cutters on Thompson Bridge Road Friday morning at 10:00 to help his barber celebrate 40 years in business. That's when a ribbon-cutting is planned to mark the anniversary.

Owner Tommy Gooch says Deal, a longtime Gainesville resident, has been a customer of his for most of that 40 years - and so the governor will be at the event to recognize the value of small, family-owned businesses like Precision.

“I’ve cut the Governor’s hair for almost 40-years and so when we started talking about the history of our business it just seemed natural for me to ask him if he’d help with the ribbon-cutting that the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce was planning. I was sort of surprised that he would take the time to participate, but then again, he has always seemed so down to earth.”

Gooch said Deal still maintains a standing appointment to have his hair cut at Precision, and that conversations with the Governor when he is in the barber chair have always remained confidential.

Gooch says Precision Hair Kutters is one of the oldest barber and styling shops in the area.

Its origins date back to a barber shop run by Gooch’s father in Gainesville. Tommy then joined the business and started Precision Hair Kutters. The Gooch family ties to the barbering and styling profession include Tommy’s late father, his mother who has a stylist shop in Dahlonega, and his brother, Ricky who was once a partner at Precision Hair Kutters and now manages his mother’s shop in Dahlonega, where Tommy’s daughter also works. One of Tommy’s sons and his daughter-in-law also work at Precision Hair Kutters. Five other stylists are employed at Precision, including two with over 25 years of service.

Friday's celebration will be open to the public.
