Softball: Jefferson survives Game 3; East Hall, Lumpkin eliminated
By staff reports
JEFFERSON – Savannah Snapp and Olivia Husted led an 11-hit attack for Jefferson with three hits apiece as the Lady Dragons held off Westminster 5-3 Friday in the deciding Game 3 of the teams’ best-of-three Class AA state playoff series.
Jefferson now moves on to play Region 5-AA champ Bremen next week in the second round in Bremen. That series also will be a best-of-three format.
The Lady Dragons jumped on Westminster starter Emily Bassett quickly when Ashley Boyd led off the game with a home run. Westminster would tie the game at 1 in the third but Jefferson would reclaim the lead for good in the fifth.
Snapp would break the tie with a two-out, two run single to left for a 3-1 lead. Westminster would close the gap to 3-2 in the fifth.
Jefferson added to its lead with an RBI double by Raegan Sandy in the sixth and a RBI single from Erin Jackson in the seventh. Westminster would load the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh but only get one run as Jefferson’s Caitlin Cantrell was able to get off the jam and preserve the series victory.
