Volleyball playoffs: Chestatee, Buford, Jefferson charge into second round
Chestatee, Buford and Jefferson each made the most of their first round state playoff matches on Wednesday, advancing through to the second round of the volleyball postseason.
Meanwhile, North Hall saw its season come to an end on Wednesday, falling at Sonoraville in the Class AAA first round. Rabun County was also swept at St. Vincent's in Savannah.
The Lady Trojans fell in three close-fought sets, 25-20, 32-30, 25-15, and were led by Kristina Gregory's 15 assists, one ace and one dig. Sydney Cleveland also finished with eight kills, five digs and a block, while Julie Daniels had five kills and three digs. Makenzie Bryant also had 10 digs.
Fellow Area 5-AAA competitor Buford also went on the road but came away with a 3-0 win over Cartersville. The third-seeded Lady Wolves will also get to host a second round match on Tuesday after fourth-seeded Southeast Bulloch pulled off a 3-0 defeat of top-seeded Henry County.
In Class AAAA, Chestatee will also play again on Tuesday after the Lady War Eagles fended off Jonesboro 3-1 in Gainesville on Wednesday. Chestatee awaits the winner of the Southeast Effingham-Alexander match-up.
In Class AA, Jefferson is also waiting to see who it will face after notching a straight sets victory over Toombs County on Wednesday. The Lady Dragons rode strong serving and a high-percentage hitting attack to win 25-6, 25-13, 25-5. Jefferson (32-11) awaits the winner of the Temple-Calhoun match.
