ATHENS - The Athens Banner Herald is reporting that the co-founder and CEO of the Athens-based Locos Deli & Pub restaurant chain was found dead earlier this week in the Mississippi River.

The report says that Hughes Walmsley Lowrance, 47, was pulled out of the river on Tuesday. Lowrance was visiting a campsite in the area.

An obituary in the Athens newspaper said Lowrance was an active supporter of the Boys and Girls Club of America and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Lowrance received his Bachelor degree from the University of Georgia, where he was president of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

It was during his time at UGA that Lowrance started Locos Grill & Pub.

In 1988, Lowrance teamed with fellow student Jamey Loftin, who now serves as Locos Chief Operating Officer, by investing $10,000 to open a sandwich shop which eventually grew into a restaurant chain covering much of the Southeast.

Funeral services for Lowrance are being held Saturday in Memphis.

Lowrance's death remain under investigation.
