Habersham BOE continues to weigh educational foundation
By Rob Moore Editor
CLARKESVILLE - On Monday, Sept. 30, the Habersham County Board of Education again will discuss the possibility of forming an educational foundation to help fund programs within the school system.
Recently, the board heard from Jim Mathis and Callie Flack of the Gainesville-based North Georgia Community Foundation. The two explained how that organization might be able to help the board with that goal.
Habersham County Schools Chief Financial Officer Staci Newsome said discussions are ongoing on how the board might establish a foundation.
"The Habersham County Board of Education is exploring the possibility of establishing a non-profit foundation dedicated to supporting, rewarding and enhancing the students, staff and schools in our system," Newsome said.
"The foundation would be a charitable organization potentially designed to complement programs and activities currently provided by the system, augment visibility and value of our schools in the community, and strengthen business and partner-in education relationships," Newsome said.
Monday morning's called meeting will be held at 8:30 at Clarkesville Elementary School.
