DAWSONVILLE - The Dawson County K9 Strike Team was able to locate a lost Rabun County man over the weekend.
The man had been reported missing by his family members around 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 13 when he had not come home after a walk. It was reported the man was not dressed appropriately for a long walk. In addition, family member said the missing man had a medical history that presented concern.
After an unsuccessful initial ground search, along with bad weather not permitting a proper aerial search, the K9 Strike Team was called in. Chief Danny Speaks and Vet Tech Brian Lance arrived on scene at 11:30 pm and re-interviewed the family, according to Rabun County authorities. Their canine companion, Liberty, immediately set out to search for the missing man.
“She made a left hand turn, ran up a mountain and there he was,” said Speaks.
While Speaks did not reveal the exact location of the search, he said the terrain was difficult, with dense shrubbery and an incline.
“We did locate him on top of a pretty steep grade and we were able to assist and get him out,” said Speaks.
The man was cold, thirsty and slightly disoriented but was in good condition overall, according to medical personnel at the scene.
