Hall animal shelter brings on volunteer advisory board

GAINESVILLE - Hall County Animal Shelter officials have brought on a volunteer advisory board as the organization moves into the future.
Shelter Director Mike Ledford said the six-person team is made up of people who are very familiar with the organization.
"They're all long-time volunteer members here at the shelter, most of them since our inception, but they've been here and doing the things that help us on a day-to-day basis," Ledford said.
The responsibility includes coordinating volunteer activity at the shelter, promoting the overall shelter mission and helping organize fundraisers and promotions.
"They'll help communicate within their organization to make sure we have volunteers to help with events, day-to-day operations and weekend things that we have going on at the shelter," Ledford said.
Susan Allen is serving as chair of the new board.
"The animal shelter has made incredible strides in recent years, and I look forward to continuing that momentum as we embark on these new projects," Allen said in a county press release.
One of those projects is work on a second outdoor kennel at the facility's Barber Road location to be used in the shelter's transport program.
That program helps connect unwanted animals in Hall County with homes in the New England area. The shelter needs the new kennel, because the animals must be quarantined outdoors for two weeks before they make the trip.
