DAWSONVILLE - Georgia Department of Transportation crews have reopened Thompson Road in Dawson County Tuesday afternoon after finishing some paving and striping work early.
The work was part of a $2.7 million project at the intersection of State Route 53. The work includes turning lanes on SR 53 and changing grades at the intersection to improve sight distance.
Workers hoped to have Thompson Road open by late Tuesday afternoon but were able to finish early.
"Then focus will shift to Etowah River Road paving. A second crew has started paving State Route 53. We are diligently working with the contractor to get this work completed as soon as possible,” District Engineer Bayne Smith said Monday afternoon.
Thompson Road essentially turns into Etowah River Road on the north side of Highway 53.
