SANDY SPRINGS - Authorities say firefighters pulled two people from a burning duplex just north of Atlanta early Monday morning.

The two apparently have died of their injuries, according to Fox 5 News.

Three firefighters were recovering from minor injuries as a result of trying to rescue the two people inside the townhome Sandy Springs.

Officials said fire crews had to force their way into the building on North River Parkway. Once inside, they found a man in his 50s and a woman in her 80s, both in cardiac arrest.

WSB-TV reports that one firefighter hurt his knee while getting the woman out of the home. Another burned his hand when the flames inside the home rekindled. Fox 5 News reports a third firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation.
