UNG men's soccer snags double OT road win at Barry
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. –- The University of North Georgia men's soccer team opened up the 2013 season in dramatic fashion Friday with a 1-0 double-overtime victory over host Barry University.
After the two teams battled to a scoreless 90 minutes of regulation soccer and one overtime period, it was the visiting Nighthawks that were able to find the golden goal as James Dobbins slid a pass to Amin El-Shami who connected for the game winner in the 107th minute of the match.
Barry outshot the Nighthawks 19-15 but it was UNG that held a decisive 5-1 shot advantage in the extra periods. Barry was only able to get three of their 19 shots on goal while UNG make was able to force BU's keeper into seven saves. UNG's Kris Alonzo recorded the shutout in goal rejecting all three of the Buccaneers' shots.
UNG will continue their two-game road trip through southern Florida when the Nighthawks travel to Fort Lauderdale to take on Nova Southeastern University with game time set for 1:00 PM at NSU Soccer Complex.
