Empty Bowl Lunch to feature celebrity ladlers
GAINESVILLE - This year's Georgia Mountain Food Bank (GMFB) Empty Bowl Lunch will have a different twist twist: a signature menu served by a few local celebrities.
Baseball Hall of Famer Phil Niekro, 1973 Masters Champion Tommy Aaron, Gainesville City Fire Chief Jerome Yarbrough, Police Chief Brian Kelly, Sheriff Gerald Couch, and Hall County Fire Chief David Kimbrell will all be serving your choice of chicken tortilla soup, beef vegetable soup or black-eyed pea and spinach soup, plus a salad and biscuit. Other celebrity ladlers include Dr. Chris Jesperson and Dr. Ric Kabat from University of North Georgia, Sarah Bell and Jamie Moore from Gainesville City Schools and Will Schofield from Hall County Schools, and Northeast Georgia Medical Center President Brad Nurkin.
It will be held Thursday, Sept. 19, from 11:00-1:00 in the banquet hall at First Baptist Church on Green Street. State Sen. Butch Miller will be making remarks at 12:15.
Tickets are $25 each and proceeds help GMFB distribute food for its five-county service area. One admission can provide up to 125 meals. Last year, the food bank distributed more than 1.1 million pounds of food to more than 45 partners in Hall, Dawson, Forsyth, Lumpkin and Union counties.
