Missing Braselton man returns home
BRASELTON - An 80-year-old Braselton man who had not been seen since Monday is back home, according to Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum.
The sheriff said Jimmy A. Smithson returned home Wednesday after authorities issued a call for his safe return.
Smithson's relatives reported they last heard from him Monday around 10 p.m. during a cell phone call. When relatives went to his Thornhill Drive home, Smithson and his vehicle were missing; he had left his phone at home.
Family told authorities that Smithson had been showing early stages of dementia and has become increasingly forgetful. He had made statements to family about going to work, but he hasn't worked in several years.
Mangum did not say where Smithson had been during the time he was missing. She said family members were having Smithson undergo a medical evaluation.
