BRASELTON - Georgia State Troopers said no charges will be filed in a Tuesday morning traffic accident where a pedestrian was hit and killed by an SUV in south Hall County.
It happened around 6:45 a.m. on Highway 211 near Stillwater Lane in the Braselton area, according to Tracey Watson of the Georgia Department of Public Safety Public Information Office.
Watson said Preston Anderson, 62, of Braselton, died when he was struck by a Chevrolet Tahoe. A Georgia State Patrol (GSP) investigation found that Anderson had been walking northbound in the roadway in the southbound lane when he was hit.
Tuesday morning, GSP Cpl. Charles Parker said the SUV driver, identified later as Joan Shadburn, 43, of Gainesville, stopped after the collision.
"She struck what she thought was a deer. She turned around at that point and went back to the scene and tried to locate the animal, which she was unable to do."
Parker said she then continued on to her destination.
"I guess (she) had an uneasy feeling and went back later in the morning and located the investigation that was ongoing," Parker said.
Troopers believe the entire incident was an accident.
