GAINESVILLE - Five people, including a father and son, face various drug charges in Hall County after a vehicle stop and residential search turned up heroin and marijuana, according to authorities.
All five suspects had Gainesville addresses.
The Gainesville-Hall County Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad (MANS) and Hall County Sheriff's Office deputies made the arrests that began with the traffic stop Wednesday.
The father and son, Harold Gilbert, 37, Brandon Tremain Gilbert, 18, and an infant, also the older Gilbert's child, were in the car, according to MANS Lt. Scott Ware. Agents said they found heroin and marijuana in the vehicle.
"The mother of the child or guardian came to pick the child up. He (Harold Gilbert) placed over $500 of drug money in the child's diaper. Of course, we saw it," Ware said.
Authorities saw it, because the vehicle left a residence they had surveillance on at 3179 Baker Road, Lot 2.
The older Gilbert is charged with trafficking heroin, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, reckless conduct and tampering with evidence.
The younger Gilbert, 18-year-old Brandon, was charged with party to the crime of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and party to the crime of possession of heroin with the intent to distribute.
According to Ware, agents seized more items at the residence while running a search warrant.
"(Items) seized from the residence and Mr. Gilbert and his son were about $7,200 worth of heroin, marijuana, scales and packaging materials," Ware said.
Three more suspects, Joseph Andrew Washington, 27, Michael David Johnson, 29, and Karen Christine Reed, 23, were arrested at the residence.
All three are charged with trafficking heroin and possession of heroin with the intent to distribute. Washington faces additional charges of possession of heroin with the intent to distribute and reckless conduct.
