COMMERCE - Jackson County officials said a fire Thursday morning in Commerce did heavy damage to a house.
According to Jackson County Emergency Service Director Steve Nichols, firefighters from Nicholson, Commerce, and the Jackson County Correctional Institute Fire Departments responded to 1184 AC Smith Road around 10:22 a.m.
No one was home at the time of the fire in the single-family residence, according to Nichols. An alert neighbor reported the blaze.
American Red Cross officials responded to help the family.
