Sheriff's office to offer free firearms classes
By Derreck Booth Editor
GAINESVILLE - Authorities in Hall County are offering people a free chance to learn more about firearms safety and handling.
The sheriff's office reserve unit is planning to host the two-hour classroom sessions, according to sheriff's deputy Chad Mann.
"Safety basics, and not only that, but just minor handling techniques. We don't go over how to use the weapon in the field, that's a totally different subject," Mann said.
"Instead of doing the full class where we put everyone into a classroom and then out on the range to show them and give them instruction on how to use their firearm, this is an in-classroom technique," Mann added.
There's no timetable for when the classes will be held. They'll be set based on registration and participation, according to Mann.
Captain Harry Chapman is handling the sessions. They'll be held at the sheriff's office main office at 610 Main Street SW in Gainesville.
To sign up, you can contact Captain Chapman at (404)569-5296.
