DAWSONVILLE - Dawson County School System (DCSS) Superintendent Keith Porter and Lanier Technical College (LTC) President Dr. Ray Perren recently signed a Dual Enrollment Agreement at a meeting of the county school board.
This is the latest in a series of such agreements entered into by LTC with school systems in its service area.
Dual enrollment is the process through which a high school student takes courses from a state public or private college while still enrolled as a high school student and receives credit both at the high school and at the college. Through dual enrollment, high school students can have several college courses completed before high school graduation.
Dual enrollment increases the classroom options available in a high school and encourages students to continue their education. Students also experience the rigor of college courses and get a jump-start on college and a career.
It provides an opportunity for the Dawson County School System to expand the curriculum at no extra cost and enables high school students with an opportunity to jump-start their college education and career skills.
Dr. Perren also announced that starting this year, Lanier Technical College will exempt the portion of the tuition and fees that are not covered by the HOPE Grant for students that qualify for the HOPE Grant. This exemption is designed to help to remove any financial barriers that students might have in order to help them dual enroll and to have more opportunities to get involved.
Students interested in dual enrollment should see their guidance counselors for more details, or they can visit www.laniertech.edu/dualenroll.
