Teen mother gets seven years behind bars in infant's death
GAINESVILLE - A teenage mother was sentenced to seven years in prison Monday in the death of her nine-day-old daughter last summer in Hall County.
18 year old Haley Brook Clark of Gainesville had been charged with murder in the baby's death, but pleaded guilty to two counts of first degree cruelty to children, according to Hall County District Attorney Lee Darragh.
Darragh confirmed the sentence also included a mental health evaluation, 33 years on probation and a $2000 fine.
Clark was 17 at the time of her daughter's death. She was arrested August 6 of last year.
Hall County EMS units and sheriff's deputies responded to the 5200 block of Hopewell Lane on July 18, 2012, to a report of an infant who had stopped breathing.
The infant, Olivia Clark, was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, according to investigators.
