Rain pounds north Georgia

GAINESVILLE - With the seemingly daily barrage of heavy rain in north Georgia, problems persisted Thursday afternoon across the region.

All of north Georgia remained under a flash flood watch with Hall, Banks and Jackson counties under a flash flood warning through 8:15 p.m. Gwinnett and Habersham were also added to flash flood warnings into the evening.

Habersham County authorities dealth with numerous flooding issues in the height of heavy rain.

In Hall County, water washed out Talmo Road and forced crews to close it between the two Ed Cobb Road entrances.

Jackson County authorities also reported flooding along the Hall/Jackson county line on Highway 332 in Talmo.

Surface street flooding was also reported in Gainesville on the northbound side of Highway 129 at Riverside Terrace.

Authorities worked several traffic accidents on the northbound side of Interstate 985 Thursday afternoon.

According to Hall County dispatchers there were several northbound accidents on the Interstate between Atlanta Highway and Queen City Parkway. There were no initial reports of serious injuries.

Authorities continued to work those crashes into the 2:00 p.m. hour.

Into the 3:00 p.m. hour, law enforcement was working or responding to numerous traffic accidents in the area, including reports of an overturned vehicle on Winder Highway at Highway 211 south of Oakwood.

Earlier in the afternoon, a two-car crash caused major delays on State Route 53 or Winder Highway in Jackson County.

According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, the wreck happened near Curk Roberts Road in the Braselton area. Traffic was backed up there during the noon hour.

Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport in Gainesville recorded .78 inch of rain in about an hour's time Thursday afternoon starting about 2:00.
