Roads closed across region as a result of Wed. rains
UNDATED - Law enforcement across the north Georgia region is busy with road closures and downed trees. The following list is based on information from various agencies. Please note that the situation is changing rapidly as the rain falls, so there may be some road closures and accidents that are not updated. We will update as quickly as we can.
~Trees across the 5200 block of Grant Rd and Old Cornelia at Pierce Rd, according to Hall County Fire.
The following road information is from Dawson County Government:
~Cowart Road – some flooding, continuing to monitor, use caution
~Harry Sosebee Road (between Lumpkin Campground & Blacksmill ) – some flooding, continuing to monitor, use caution
~Holcomb Bridge Road – some flooding, continuing to monitor, use caution
~Joe Chester Road – some flooding, continuing to monitor, use caution
~Little Mtn. Road – some flooding, continuing to monitor, use caution
~Pine Bridge Drive – some flooding, continuing to monitor, use caution
~River Put-In: (located at Etowah River/Thompson Bottoms bridge near Rock Creek Park) River access is closed due to flooding. The Dog Walk area is closed due to flooding.
~Roscoe Collette Road – Cherokee County portion of road Closed. Dawson County portion remains open to residents, no thru traffic.
The Roads crew is making repairs in an attempt to prevent further damage and keep the road open.
~Thompson Road (at Hwy 53) – some flooding, continuing to monitor, use caution
~Cantrell Road; it is expected to be closed for about a week, according to Sheriff's Deputy Doug Rainwater.
~Old Federal Road
~Settingdown Road near the Hampton subdivision
The following roads are closed in Gilmer County:
~Whitestone Rd. between Hwy. 5 & Hwy. 515
There are bridges submerged or out on Sunlight Rd. and Whitestone Rd. North.
~Whiteoak Drive near Homer Wright Road closed
~Clear Creek Road has excessive standing water
~Blackberry Mountain Road has excessive standing water
The following information has been released by the Pickens County Sheriff's Office (around 2pm):
~Hwy 136 East was affected in numerous areas. A mudslide, several trees in the roadway and water crossing the roadway, caused the road to be closed for the majority of the morning.
~In the City of Jasper, Gennett Drive (between the Grandview Nursing Home and Lumber Company Road) was washed out completely. The nursing home can still be accessed by the Hood Road side of the road.
~Price Creek Road, Sutton Road and East Price Creek Road all flooded with water crossing over the road.
~Several additional roads have also been affected…these are only the highlighted incidents.
~Whitestone Road area was flooded in the area of Carnes Mill Road. The Talona Creek Campground had excessive water. Volunteers from the community and Deputies from the Pickens Sheriff’s Office were able to move the campers in the affected area prior to having the water reach them.
The following roads are closed in Stephens County:
~Turner Road (off Wolfpit) in the Eastanollee area
~Buena Vista Drive
~Freeman Creek Road
